I am enjoying my long weekend. I went home to my family but now I am back as tomorrow is working day again. My friend whom I call my Ate Inday texted me yesterday saying she's getting married today. I am having mixed feelings since yesterday. I am happy because finally after a big disappointment, she found the man whom she would spent the rest of her life. I am sad at the same time because I can no longer sleep at her side whenever I visit their home like I used to do. Oh God, what I am thinking! It is not right I know. I am getting childishly selfish again.

The first time I felt this way was when my sister Elanie got married in 2007. I felt sad because I was thinking that my sister was being taken from me. But then I realized there wasn't any reason to be sad. Instead I should be celebrating as I gained another brother in the person of her husband. I love my sister. I know that it will make her happy so I have to let go. Besides, love is just about letting go of the people you hold dear in your heart if you know that it will make them happy. You cannot clip their wings if they want to fly. It is  part of the changes in our lives. I am just being overprotective sometimes. Being the eldest, I can't help feeling this way. I have no other thoughts in mind but the welfare of my siblings. Though they tend to be disagreeable sometimes, which is normal (it happens to everyone) but I love them just the same.

When Euvelyn got married, it's already okay with me as I always see her husband and I already consider him my brother long before they tied the knot. It's just a matter of familiarity with the person that made me accept another change in our lives as siblings.  I know that's she's in good hands. That thought put my mind at ease.

1950's, 60' s, 70's and early 80's !!!

First, some of us survived being born to mothers who did not have an OB-Gyne and drank San Miguel Beer while they carried us.

While pregnant, they took cold or cough medicine, ate Linunod, balikutsa, bukhayo and didn't worry about diabetes.

Then after all that trauma, our baby cribs were made of hard wood covered with lead-based paints, ang uban kay duyan nga habol gihigtan ug pisi nga inigtabyog ug kusog ma pakong intawon ta sa bongbong.

We had no soft cushy cribs that play music, no disposable diapers (lampin lang sa General Milling nga naa'y faded picture nga nag-salute), and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, no kneepads, wala pa gyu'y brake ang bisikleta.

As children, we would ride in hot un-airconditioned buses with wooden seats (Bisaya Bus nga pultahan puros ang kilid, Corominas Bus nga senimana ang brake), or cars with no airconditioning & no seat belts (karon kay Minibus na nga nindot kaayo ug sounds or Ceres Bus nga bugnaw ug aircon)

Riding on the back of a carabao on a breezy summer day was considered a treat. (karon; ang mga bata wala na kaila ug Kabaw)

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT bottled mineral water sa Nature Spring or Viva, or Absolute Mineral water (usahay gani, straight from the faucet or poso or Tabay!)

We shared one soft drink bottle with four of our friends, and NO ONE actually died from this. Or contracted hepatitis.

We ate rice with star margarine, bahaw nga gibutangan ug asin ug mantika sa baboy, drank raw eggs straight from the shell, and drank softdrinks with real sugar in it (dili diet coke or Pepsi Max), but we weren't sick or overweight kay......

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, and get back when the streetlights came on. Syatong, Bato-Lata, Bagol, Dakop-Dakop, Tago-Tago, Ngita'g Kaka.

No one was able to reach us all day ( wala pa'y uso ang cellphone) . And yes, we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our wooden trolleys (katong bearing ang ligid) or Karitong Kawayan nga karaang tsinilas ang giporma nga ligid and then ride down the street , wala ma'y gidungog nga naligsan atoh! After hitting the sidewalk or falling! into a canal (sewage channel) a few times, we learned to solve the problem ourselves with our bare & dirty hands .

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 100 channels on cable, no DVD movies, no surround stereo, no IPOD's, no cell phones, no computers, no Internet, no chat rooms, and no Friendsters. ........ ...WE HAD REAL FRIENDS and we went outside to actually talk and play with them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no stupid lawsuits from these accidents. The only rubbing we get is from our friends with the words..sakit bai ? pero kung kontra gani nimo ang imong kadula,,,,singgitan lang dayon ug..Mayra,Gabaan!

We played marbles (jolen) in the dirt , washed our hands just a little and ate Pan Bahug-bahug & Bagumbayan (recycled bread man diay to kay wala mahalin!) We were not afraid of getting germs in our stomachs.

We had to live with homemade guns (giporma nga kahoy, gihigtan ug garter ug lastiko) , saplong , tirador ug uban pa nga pwedeng magkasakitay. Pero lingaw gihapon kaayo ang tanan.

We made up games with sticks ( syatong ), and cans ( Bato-Lata )and although we were told they were dangerous, wala man gyud to'y actual nga nabuta bah, bukol lang nuon sa agtang naa.

We walked, rode bikes, or took tricycles to a friend's house and knocked on the door or batoon ug gagmay nga bato ang bungbong, or just yelled for them to jump out the window!

Mini basketball teams had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't pass had to learn to deal with the disappointment.

That generation of ours has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers, creative thinkers and successful professionals ever! They are the CEO's, Engineers, Doctors and Military Generals of today.

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had failure, success, and responsibility. We learned from our mistakes the hard way.

You might want to share this with others who've had the luck to grow up as real kids. We were lucky indeed.

And if you like, forward it to your kids too, so they will know how brave their parents were.

It kind of makes you wanna go out and climb a tree, doesn't it?!

Red:  The Color of Political Violence

Click here to see how power could corrupt people.  In the name of power politics, this is what people can do.  Take a glimpse at the violence that took place in our beloved Maguindanao yesterday. It was gory and bloody, bloodshed for selfish ambitions.  A senseless criminal act that wasted precious lives.

This is a humongous violation of human rights.  I appeal to all people out there who respects the value of life,  please pray that the victims of this heinous crime can have justice from this atrocity.

I found myself on a river bank.  A river with crystal clear water that I could see the sandy bottom despite its depth.  I was so enamored with the scenery that I can't help myself from entertaining a tempting thought of bathing there.  When I am about dip my right foot, I saw a wounded snake swimming towards the opposite bank of the river.  When it reached the opposite side, it transformed into the form of a  man.  It made me wonder why I was standing in the middle of this enchanted place.  Then another man approached me and asked what I am doing in such a dangerous place.    I became so scared that I begged him to accompany me home because I don't know the way.  The man led me until I saw familiar places and faces.  I can't describe my happiness  when I reached home.  Only did the man bid me goodbye and left.  The last thing I remembered before waking up was that I was waving goodbye to him.  In my heart I know it is not the last time that I would see him.  But the weird part is that, I cannot even make out his face so I had no memory of how he looked.

We know that it is common among some parents to have a favorite among their children.  Although they would say that they love their children equally, deep down they know there is this special one that is closer to their hearts.

My parents are not an exemption to this especially my father.  Although he won't say it, his actions betray him.  When I was still a teen-ager, I was revolting because I observed that he favored one of my siblings.  The way he treated her is different from the rest of us.  But then I realized that it will do me no good if I would ruin my life just for that issue.  In my mind I was saying, so what if I am not the favored one?  I can still be a better person.  That's my way of thinking before.  So I stopped vying for his attention.  I retreated into a world where only me, my notes, pens and my books exist. That was the time I felt that an invisible wall began to grow between us. What I just like was that my father never compared me with my other siblings.  In our family, sibling rivalry was never an issue.  We are aware that each of us are unique in our own way.

I am glad that my father and I are in good terms now.  As time passed by, I learned to forgive him and myself in the process.  As I advance in years, I began to see things from his point of view.  I now understand why he has a favorite.  It's not because he willed it but because he just can't help it.

I am going to Davao City tomorrow not to enjoy my weekend but just to pay my insurance premium.  My original plan was to go on Saturday but my aunt inform me that the company is close on weekends.  So I got no other choice but to inform my boss that I will have to be absent from work.  I was so happy when she said yes.

Insurance for me is a good investment.  I chose Manulife Freedom @ 65 plan.  I trusted the company's good standing despite what's happening to the pre-need companies these days.  We are surrounded by life's uncertainties as long as we are breathing.  It is not bad to prepare for the worst if ever it will happen.  As Jason always tell me, life is unfair so hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

My cousin tried to discouraged me by saying it is not a wise move to invest on insurance.  Still I go for it because I believe it's worth the risk.  It is something I have to do for my family.  If anything happens to me, at least I have something to leave for them.  I will risk everything for my family.  Besides, taking risks is what life is all about.  And to quote Jason again, taking risks is what makes life worth living.

A woman came out of her house and saw three old men with long white beards sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize them. She said "I don't think I know you, but you must be hungry. Please come in and have something to eat."
"Is the man of the house home?", they asked.
"No", she replied. "He's out.
"Then we cannot come in", they replied.
In the evening when her husband came home, she told him what had happened.
"Go tell them I am home and invite them in!"
The woman went out and invited the men in"
"We do not go into a House together," they replied.
"Why is that?" she asked.
One of the old men explained: "His name is Wealth," he said pointing to one of his friends, and said pointing to another one, "He is Success, and I am Love." Then he added, "Now go in and discuss with your husband which one of us you want in your home.
The woman went in and told her husband what was said. Her husband was overjoyed. "How nice!!", he said. "Since that is the case, let us invite Wealth. Let him come and fill our home with wealth!"
His wife disagreed. "My dear, why don't we invite Success?"
Their daughter-in-law was listening from the other corner of the house. She jumped in with her own suggestion: "Would it not be better to invite Love? Our home will then be filled with love!"
"Let us heed our daughter-in-law's advice," said the husband to his wife.
"Go out and invite Love to be our guest."
The woman went out and asked the 3 old men, "Which one of you is Love? Please come in and be our guest."
Love got up and started walking toward the house. The other 2 also got up and followed him. Surprised, the lady asked Wealth and Success: "I only invited Love, Why are you coming in?"
The old men replied together: "If you had invited Wealth or Success, the other two of us would've stayed out, but since you invited Love, wherever He goes, we go with him. Wherever there is Love, there is also Wealth and Success!!!!!!"

I got this story from an e-mail sent by my former boss.

Being practical is one key factor to survival nowadays.  With the economic crisis looming all over the globe, we can still survive it and yet still be fashionable.  What we need is versatile and multi-functional accessories that we can use for all occasions.  Gone were the days when women used to own different accessories for different social functions.

Watches are one of the popular accents among women.  And owning one doesn't have to cost them a fortune.  As i was browsing the net like I do all the time, I came across this site that sells high quality watches of a very famous brand, Timex.  Their Timex core Cavatina and Core Easy Reader collection caught my attention.  These watches come in sleek and fashionable designs and at a very affordable price.  It is perfect for women on the go as they can be paired with almost any outfit.

And if you are contemplating to do an early Christmas shopping minus the hassle, you can conveniently do it by visiting  They are offering other items like shoes, clothing, bags, housewares and beauty products.  And if you run out of gift ideas they also have their line of gift ideas to choose from.  All these items will be delivered to your doorstep free of shipping charge.  And they have a 365-day return policy on all their items.

I was on my way to the office yesterday when I saw a cloud of smoke coming from a nearby establishment  popularly known among the locals as barter trade center.  The stall owners were busy as bees as they tried to salvage their goods from the fire.  Governor Gutierrez Avenue was jammed with traffic as the traders trying desperately to transfer their goods into their vehicles.I did not worry about it because the way I look at it, it's just a small incident that can be easily handled.  But I was shocked when I got out of the office to see the place all burned down.  Has Friday the 13th got something to do with this?  I don't really believe this thing though.  I was disheartened because this is the place where I buy "pasalubongs" for my friends and relatives.  It is one of Cotabato's tourist attraction for its very affordable malongs.

On the lighter side of things.  I am excited today because tomorrow will be Pacquiao-Cotto fight, with Pacman eyeing his 7th title and trying to bag a new world record.  Our politicians are already flocking Las Vegas right at this very moment.  Also The US Secretary  of State was here yesterday for a two-day visit to boost the relationship between her country and ours.  She had a dialogue with the UST students that they dubbed as The Manila Forum.  She made a confident statement that Pacquiao will win the fight when asked by Chris Tiu about it.  I believe the same thing too.  I am just worried about the singers who will sing our National Anthem tomorrow.  I heard it is the La Diva.   I hope they will sing it note for note accordingly.  Martin Nievera disgraced us the last time for singing his own version and not the original version of the anthem.  Lupang Hinirang's (Chosen Land) tempo is not hip hop, not ballad or a love song.  Please please guys do it according to the  musical arrangement and composition of Julian Felipe.  Show some respect to the composer of this revered anthem of Filipinos.  We are not talking about your talent here or how high your notes are.  Just sing the anthem the way it should be.

As I was browsing my pictures, I came upon this picture taken inside Citi Hardware Cotabato when I was still working there.  Memories flooded back in my mind.  I missed my three years of answering phones which were endlessly ringing while processing the documents of our deliveries coupled with the incessant inquiries of countersales and merchandisers about available stocks.  I miss the long hours of never ending inventory seasons.  Gone were the days of beating deadlines of month-end reports, of printing voluminous merchandisers sales reports and reconciling of printed bar codes.  These are some things that made me exhausted at the end of the day.  It may have been hard work but working hard made me appreciate every cent I earned.

While I was there, I seized every opportunity to learn Every task is a challenge and a chance to grow as a person and learning new things everyday.  I learned to be flexible (though it's hard) in dealing with people of varied backgrounds and characters.  What I liked most was the chance to meet people and eventually build good friendship with them.  Some of them,  I talked to over the phone everyday.  Eventhough  I have not gotten the chance to meet some of them in person, they became my good friends even after I left Citi Hardware.  I consider them my precious friends that I would cherish for a lifetime.

These are some of our latest photos taken inside Citi Hardware when I visited them recently.  These people made my stay in this establishment worthwhile.  Thank you guys.

It's been a while since my boss told me and my officemates that she wanted to start a blog.  I have forgotten about it until she mentioned it again this morning.  She said she is very excited to start it already.  So as not to dampen her excitement, we helped her to set up her own blog.  Everything went well until we reach the subject of blog templates.  I find it difficult to find a new template that suits her because I don't know about what she wants.  All I know is that she loves pink.  For now, we temporarily put a pink shopaholic template as we are still searching  for the one that she would like and would really suit her blog.  If you know of  sites with wide array of templates to choose from, please let me know.  Your help is very much welcome and appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
As I watched the glittering adornments on different streets of Manila on tv last night, I almost feel that Christmas is here. The atmosphere gives away the hint that Yuletide season is just around the corner. The flashy lights, the Christmas songs being played in the airwaves, the gargantuan Christmas tree displays say it all. It looks like typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng had not struck the country.

It's just been a couple of weeks since these catastrophes struck the Luzon area to the ground. But with the flexibility of character and endurance of the Filipinos, not to mention our happy nature, (we manage to tell a joke or laugh even in the midst of trials) my people were able to bounce back like it never happened at all.

When the above-mentioned typhoons "visited" the country, what I was thinking during that moment was that, how would the victims of the flood recover from so much loss? I was thinking, what are they going to put on their tables when Noche Buena comes, considering that all their properties were lost in the raging floods. I felt so sad for them. I would be enjoying my meals come Noche Buena and Media Noche. We have a Christmas tree at home that my mother laboriously decorated. I already made my Christmas list. But what about them?

It is not easy to see other people shopping for Christmas presents while you on the other hand is struggling to make a living to feel your family who are taking refuge at the evacuation center. I never wanted to go through that pain. Confronted with the reality and unfairness of life, I came to realize that I am very lucky. I may have been living in a place notorious for its crimes, drugs and wars but I thank God just the same. Because I can still provide for myself. I live without depending on someone's help. I have a warm bed to sleep on and soft pillows to hug. Our home may be rotting of old age but still it stands to provide my family comfort and shade. My family is healthy and the happiness and contentment it gives me cannot be bought with money. All these remind me to stop whining about the place I live in. It may not be what you can call a paradise at but it is still a place I can call home.

Good news folks! Early in the morning of November 4, 2009, I got one of the best surprise in my life as a blogger. I got a page rank 1 already. It may be an insignificant achievement for others but I consider it a great feat considering that I am a newbie in bloglandia.

I want to give credit to
Ate An who introduced me into the world of blogging. It was she who provided me with the basic know-how in starting my humble blog and for her constant visits and feed backs. They are all appreciated ate. Also to my officemate Calay whom I exchange information and ideas every time we talk and to Yami for the comments and visits. Thank you very much.

And to all the people I have not mentioned here as well as those who cared to read my blog, I am grateful to all of you for keeping my blog alive with your visits.

It has been my desire to write to express myself and to share what I have in mind to the world. When I learned about blogging, I have found a way to hone my writing skills. I really wish I had that. :)

As a way of thanking Him for this great favor He had done to me, I shared a fraction of my earnings here to the
Habitat For Humanity. It is not too late to practice a little charity and start caring about other people. This is my way of expressing my gratefulness for all that He has provided me this year.

Halloween is one of the occasion the younger people are always looking forward to comes the end of October. It is not so popular here with the older generation as it is not originally a part of Filipino culture. We only acquired it from the West. It may be a borrowed practice of other cultures but nevertheless, it is something we enjoy just the same.

When I was young, I used to associate Halloween with horror and ghost stories, of vampires and other creepy creatures. I thought it is a time that these bad creatures go out to capture children and eat their heart and liver. Now I realized, my mother have only told me of these silly things so I won't go out of the house.

Normally, our western counterparts do trick and treat but it is seldom practice here. For the Filipinos, Halloween is all about partying, cool Halloween costumes, booze and a lot of merriment. Every time it approaches, the malls are also being adorned with creepy decorations.

Just recently, a friend of mine organized a Halloween party. And as we usually do, the Halloween costume contest is one of the highlights aside from the entertainment. This is one thing I love about attending this event. It is one of the occasion I dare not miss to witness as the creativity of Filipinos unfolds before my eyes. These costumes used to scare me before as they were seem so real. But now I noticed that Halloween costumes evolved. They are now themed and getting sexier more than ever each year. Last year, they did the Pirates of the Caribbean theme. My favorites were the Captain Jack Sparrow costume and that of Elizabeth Swann. They were both hot and sexy. I am a little bias here because the pirate Captain Jack Sparrow is my favorite character in the movie. I know everybody will agree with me.

This year, they did the creepy theme again inspired by the popular horror movies like The Ring and Scream. Well have you seen Sadako wear a headband? Well, at least I already saw her face :) I really don't like the ghost mask. It makes me feel like somebody would emerge from nowhere and stab me. But you know what makes these creepy creatures hot? They put a twist to their costumes. Like a zombie in cowboy boots (not so fashionable anyway). Have you seen a white lady donning a very sexy lingerie or a witch in a two piece bikini perhaps? They look so cute believe me. People's creativity is boundless. I wonder what surprise they have in store for next year's contest. I can't wait for these creepy and sexy creatures in their new costumes again.

I slept early last night because I felt so tired. I was watching the news but I can't control myself from drifting into sleep. When I was inside my room, I lost my drowsiness. As i always do, I read a few pages from the book, The Broker by John Grisham. It was lent to me by my office mate Calay. It was me who first read it because when she handed it to me, it was still completely sealed.

In less than 20 minutes, i drifted into oblivion with the sax music collection playing. I don't know how long time had passed when I dreamed about my sister's wedding. I was perplexed because she got married two years ago. And now she is getting married again. I didn't even see the the face of the groom. My mother told me to go to the reception which is 25 kilometers away from the church. But for some unknown reason, the vehicle is waiting but I can't seem to go.

I don't know if it is true that dreams have meanings. So I tried looking up on the net but I got different answers. One site said, it is a good omen that projects good future and happiness but the other site said, it signifies that somebody will die. I don't know what to believe. Maybe it is just a product of my imagination.
I am fond of reading since I learned how to read. It's something I inherited from my father. I read all the books and magazines we have at home. My day won't pass without me opening pages of a book. I am really fascinated with them. I consider every book a wonder, a glimpse to an author's mind of rich ideas. My favorite authors are Michael Crichton, John Grisham and Sidney Sheldon. I have my collection of their books also.

But the way I read books changed when I learned about ebooks. I still collect books but not on my shelves anymore, they're stored on my PC. When I found out about this new ebooks search engine, it made a lot easier for me to look up for my favorite books without going to the bookstore which sometimes run out of stock of the books I am looking for. It saved me a lot of time for searching for the download link of the book.

With, you will not be disappointed because they have a wide array of collection of books from all over the world some of them in pdf format. And hey, this is where I have found Harry Potter in a matter of minutes. I saved myself from paying too much for a book. Before I forgot, I still have to look up for James Bond's ebooks. I hope you will try and enjoy like I do. Till next time and happy reading!!!!!!!
